CASE STUDY
Dr. Quan Hong Duc joined Suntory PepsiCo Vietnam Beverage (SPVB) in April 2020 in the role of H&S Director. It was the time COVID was spreading all over the world and became a global pandemic. It was also the time that SPVB was under heavy pressure from poor safety performance and there was no long-term safety strategy and system. Suntory Group in Japan requested to immediately address safety concerns and build a culture of safety as a long-term plan for supply chain and operations.
During the period from April 2020 to September 2022, Dr. Quan Hong Duc had successfully implemented ISSM (Integrated Safety Solutions Model) to build the Culture of Safety Compliance and Discipline in SPVB Operations and Planning.
The ISSM created 5 Must-Win Battles as the cores of AOP for Supply Chain & Operations in SPVB:

Building Systems
Building Compliance
Building Standards
Building Technology
Not only improve overall safety performance, but the ISSM also helped to sustain the performance by engaging employees at all levels in managing safety. Dr. Quan Hong Duc's successor was Ms. Le Nguyen Ngoc Han who used to be Production Manager and was never experienced in safety. Ms. Han continued to drive ISSM and Safety Agenda to achieve Zero LTI as a goal. In 2021, Dr. Quan Hong Duc successfully convinced SPVB ExCom to invest in building Online EHS Reporting & GEMBA - It was marked as the first milestone in Manufacturing Digital Transformation Journey in SPVB.
By the end of 2022, SPVB achieved a turnover of 1 billion USD - This was a phenomenal and the most outstanding business performance since 1995. The contribution to the success was significant from Supply Chain & Operations in which Operations Excellence and Safety Culture was included.
